Tim Mallette, trumpet
Teaching Artist Statement
I believe in the power of making creative human connections through music. My personal journey as a musician has led me to many great teachers and artists and I value guiding students on their own musical journey. I have an approach to teaching that meets students where they are and brings them forward at a pace that keeps it fresh and interesting without being discouraging. I’ve worked with very skilled students who have a solid foundation, new players of all ages, and other times I have had beginners who are in high school and are feeling overwhelmed with the repertoire they are being asked to play; in each case, I always make sure we build quality fundamentals so they can feel confident in their skills. It’s important to me to teach the artistry of being a musician which I develop through guided listening assignments and discussions as part of the lessons. My goal is that I can share my love of music with my students and get them excited about the trumpet through exposure to different styles and players. By teaching them to get deeper into their listening I have had great success with my students consistently practicing on their own and improving.
